The Incline

The Incline is a public trail that used to be a cable car line supporting the construction of pipelines on Pike's Peak. The old railroad ties have become the steps on the trail. It notoriously gains 2,000 vertical feet in one mile.

Motivated and ready to go.

The state of the ties is pretty rough in parts.

We made it to the top!

Pike's Peak got some snow earlier in the morning.

Canyonlands National Park - Needles District

Bob, Nick, and I had the opportunity to do a 3-night backpacking trip in Utah's Canyonlands National Park. Simply put, the place was amazing.

Water was scarce so you had to filter and fill up whenever you had the chance. We ended up carrying our water on the trail the last couple days because we didn't know if we would come across any more.

First night's campsite was in Lost Canyon.

The rock walls were like sandpaper so some of our gear was pretty shredded after climbing through narrow spots like this.

This raven was checking out the food situation pretty closely.

This district's namesake land feature, the Needles.

All credit goes to Bob for recommending I capture the golden glow of the light in these photos.

What an awesome trip. I'm blown away that these places exist right within our own borders. You could spend a lifetime exploring gems like this.
